In many ways, a solo spiritual trip to Chardham is an opportunity for the traveler that allows not only for spiritual, scenic, and personal uplifting journey. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, the Chardham pilgrimage consists of four sacred sites: These are the four Hindu shrines: know as Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Every place that is of importance to the Hindu followers, they have a beautiful natural scenery to offer which makes the destination quite suitable for a solo trip for people who are in search of the adventure as well as spirituality. In this blog you know about the Chardham Solo Travel.
Before getting off to my journey, all types of emotions rused together inside me — joy, expectation and even anxiety. It is as exciting and challenging as it is to travel alone into the mighty Himalayas all for adventure. After charging all my necessities in the backpack I started my journey from Haridwar and eager to catch the adventurous spirit waiting for me.
Yamunotri was the first place starting my Chardham Yatra where Yamuna River originated. I was so fascinated with the long but beautiful bus ride I was able to reach the trailhead which is where the journey starts. It is at about 5 km from the road head through forests and over a number of boulders to reach to the temple. The hum which the river close to where I sat contributed to the background of the water as I mulled over some issues.
When I tramped, I got an opportunity to appreciate the beauty that surrounded me. The high rising mountains and beautifully green shrubs were pretty calming encouraging one to push through the physical challenges. Every movement seemed to be a kind of prayer, a way of really grounding myself in the earth and my experience thus far. It amazed me that the whole day of hicking was done alone and while I was at the top of the chart, I still had enough time to think about the life choices I made and the goals I was willing to achieve.
When I got down at Yamunotri Temple I was really impressed with its looks and then its religious importance. It was a magnificent temple of Goddess Yamuna located at the backdrop of snowy mountain ranges. When I felt the moment was right, I made a request for them to let me feel so blessed to be alive and able exist amidst such splendour. At that point, I understood that solo travel was not a way to be alone but an opportunity to be as close as possible to things and the divine. I spent a very quiet night in Yamunotri and then travelled to Gangotri which forms part of the Chardham yatra. The second part of this part of the journey comprised a bus ride through picturesque countryside, followed by a hike, but I was looking forward to seeing the source of the Ganges. Gangotri is famous for its marvellous geographical location, especially the flow of river and mountains encircling it.
The trek to Gangotri Temple was really fascinating. As I climbed higher the temperature decreased, and the views become even more stunning. This gradually evoked in me quite a strong feeling of belonging to the place – I was walking as if to get closer to myself. First impression of Gangotri made me feel small and great at the same time because of the tiny Gangotri Temple amidst the mighty Himalayas.
In the temple, I felt the subtle feeling of energy that must dominate every holy place in the world. I sowed time in prayer and meditation so that the serenity getting into me whenever I was in that place got into me. This is because the atmosphere in the temple was so pious that I did not feel alone even if I was the only foreigner traveling alone at that moment. Exchanging with other pilgrims also added to my special learning about the reality we can never run away from no matter our religion.
From Gangotri, I proceeded to Kedarnath which is the next destination on my Visit the Temples pilgrimage. Part of this journey involved a bus trip before taking a rather strenuous hike that rather literally brought me to my knees. Kedarnath Temple is at a very high altitude and thus the journey to the temple is hard and they became spiritually worthy.
Starting the Kedarnath yatra, the mountains surrounding the region appear both large and beautiful yet full of challenge. Every move I made, it felt like it was about me proving something, but a challenge I accepted willingly. The mountains provided me the privacy I needed to fight with my fear and doubts. I pondered about the journey of life and I immediately saw how they face similar problems which are of the trek.
Getting to Kedarnath was somewhat victory. The structure was old yet beautiful and had religious importance; therefore the temple gave a noble feel as if it were a refuge. Inside, I felt a feeling of prayerfulness. Being in the close proximity to Shiva I was to feel the divine presence and purpose in my life. The fact of being there, hearing their chants, observing their prayers was calming and quite spiritually engaging. Our popular package is Luxury Chardham Yatra package.
The last place I visited was Badrinath, which to me was the end of My pilgrimage. Badrinath is as alive as Goa with devotees thronging the temple to worship Lord Vishnu from all over the country. Badrinath was an exciting yet sad trip because it was the last leg in what has been the Chardham Yatra.
On reaching that place, I saw the streets were lively, particularly of Badrinath. That was accompanied by the songs of joy, the prayers, the cheerful energy of the market with its bright colored stores. When walking I think around the town, I felt I was part of the group of pilgrims and travelers. Here I realized that though my journey was all individual and I never have been accompanied by anybody over a long period of time I was never lonely.
I recall joining the locals in the evening prayer – an aarti that unifies people of all age, sex, and profession. It was quite lively having the bells’ sound and people chanting on and on. Amidst such a vast gathering, it was comforting to feel that there is strength in numbers, everyone is in pursuit a truth for himself.
All in all, I spent a day to think about the experiences and new knowledge that I accumulated during the Chardham Yatra. It can indeed be lonely and at times even dangerous to travel alone but it also makes you gain so much personally. All the places from Yamunotri to Badrinath successfully explained something to me, how to fight the odds, how to have faith in god, and how people need to be connected.
The time I spent on the Himalayas, I realized I am strong than what I thought I could be. The conditions of the treks, the contemplative time, and associations with other travelers gave more personal insight. Traveling alone is much more than tourism, where people travel to different destinations.
Chardham is not even a laboratory or space; it is the pilgrimage of the soul and people are encouraged to take this journey. Chardham is a place which provides deep experiences for all those who visit that are in search of comfort, adventurous spirit and divine experience. To the people who are thinking of travelling alone, let me say – go for it, doing it is much better. Let itself Himalayas be your guru and let the divine vibrations of Chardham attract you. When I had stepped out of Chardham, I felt more directed with direction and more often grateful for the life living. The experience to be on the road, the interactions with different people and the things which one learns on the trip would remain long after I would be home. Every single trip to temple; every time I stood before a stunning view; every single time I spent in introspection had built an unending pattern of memories that would last a lifetime.
Therefore traveling to Chardham alone is a trip where one continues his journey beyond the geographical exploration of a territory. People and the nature, the buildings and the ceremonies are identified as the reflection of who we are.
